Water & Land Acknowledgement

Small’s Creek, north and south of the railway embankment, is the last remnant of a great watershed that once flowed freely into Ashbridge’s Bay. First Nations Peoples remain rights holders of the waterways through this land, including Small’s Creek. As with all waterways, Small's Creek was never given to the Crown as part of a treaty negotiation.

The lands around Small’s Creek are located on the Traditional Territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. These lands are home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples today. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Michi Saagiig Nisnaabeg (Mississaugas) and Chippewa bands.
