Mission Statement

Friends of Small’s Creek is a grassroots community group dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the forests, wetlands and wildlife in the Small’s Creek watershed. We advocate for responsible planning that aligns with the City of Toronto’s Ravine Strategy, the comprehensive restoration, the long-term ecological management, and the sustainable recreational use of this space.

We also aim to build awareness and appreciation within the community about the significance of this invaluable urban ecology.

Who We Are

We are a diverse group of engaged local citizens with expertise ranging from landscape architecture, forestry, engineering, rendering, professional communications, quantity surveying and more.

We came together in response to Metrolinx’s plans for Small’s Creek Ravine and Williamson Ravine, and continue to be a voice for this significant and endangered ecosystem and beloved community refuge.

Our Goals

  • Be a strong advocate for the protection and integrity of Small's Creek, forests, wetlands, and wildlife.

  • Balance the ecological and recreational needs within this ravine system, by creating a boardwalk loop that invites the community to engage gently with this urban wilderness and wetland oasis.

  • Grow the understanding and appreciation of Small’s Creek and wetlands in the urban water cycle.

  • Uncover the cultural heritage of this ravine system and honour the contemporary significance to the area’s Indigenous Peoples.

  • Promote awareness and appreciation of our intrinsic interrelationship with Nature and the direct health benefits for us and the ecosystem.

  • Establish, maintain and celebrate healthy relationships with the First Nations, City of Toronto, Toronto Region Conservation Authority, and Metrolinx.

  • Gain commitments from all three levels of government to support the education, protection, management, and responsible use of this forested wetland ecosystem.
